Expedition Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Gangotri (240 km / 8–9 hrs)

Assemble early morning at Dehradun ISBT / Railway Station. Enjoy a scenic drive via Mussoorie, Chamba, Uttarkashi, and Harsil valley along the Bhagirathi river. Arrive in Gangotri (3,048m) by evening. Check into guesthouse for rest and acclimatization.

Day 2: Gangotri Acclimatization & Local Excursion

Spend the day acclimatizing in Gangotri (3,048m). Short morning hike to Surya Kund and Gangotri Temple. Gear inspection, briefing by trek leader, and oxygen check.

Day 3: Gangotri to Bhojwasa (14 km / 6–7 hrs)

Begin trek along Bhagirathi gorge inside Gangotri National Park. Walk past pine forests of Chirbasa (3,600m) with first views of Bhagirathi peaks. Reach Bhojwasa (3,800m) campsite on the riverbank.

Day 4: Bhojwasa to Gaumukh Snout & Tapovan (8 km / 5–6 hrs)

Trek to Gaumukh Snout (3,892m), the holy origin of river Ganges. Cross the Gangotri Glacier moraine and negotiate a steep rock wall climb to reach Tapovan (4,463m), a stunning alpine meadow right at the base of Mt. Shivling.

Day 5: Tapovan High Meadow Exploration Day

Full day spent exploring Tapovan base. Close-up view of Mt. Shivling, Meru, and Bhagirathi massif. Explore Neel Taal lake and glacier streams.

Day 6: Tapovan to Bhojwasa (8 km / 4 hrs)

Carefully descend the rocky ridge of Tapovan back across Gangotri Glacier to Bhojwasa campsite.

Day 7: Bhojwasa to Gangotri (14 km / 5 hrs)

Descend back along the well-paved valley trail past Chirbasa to Gangotri. Overnight stay in Gangotri guesthouse.

Day 8: Gangotri to Dehradun (240 km / 8–9 hrs)

Board vehicle after breakfast for return drive through Uttarkashi and Chamba. Arrive in Dehradun by 7:00 PM ending your adventure.

Participation Requirements

  • Good physical fitness required (ability to jog 5km in 30 mins)
  • Prior high-altitude trekking experience preferred
  • Ability to trek 6–7 hours daily carrying a light daypack
  • Acclimatization compliance and medical clearance
